I’m positive we’ve all been in this situation. We approach a girls and tell her something like “You are so beautiful, I just had to come met you”. Or we are out on a first date and lay some really cheesy line on her about how gorgeous she is in hopes that the compliment will flatter her and make her that much happier to be around you. The truth is, when you first meet someone and you throw it all out there like that you are essentially telling her “There is no chase, I will stand here and let you catch me if you want”.
To women, this is a major turn off and in many situations it’s a deal killer. Just like waving a piece of string in front of a cat and watching it go nuts for a while, if you lay that string on the ground the cat will get bored and walk away. I have figured out a much better way to give a girl a compliment that will not turn her off, and in fact WILL raise her interest level in you.
If you really feel the need to pay a girl a compliment (nothing wrong with that at all) try to make it more about a mutual interest than anything else. What do I mean by this? Well, the other night I was out with some friends and I started talking to this girl i found very attractive. During the conversation, I mentioned I really like the show Californication to which her eyes lit up. We immediately began talking about the show and how we can’t wait for the new season to start. As this topic of conversation was coming to an end I said to her “I can’t believe you like that show as much as I do, you absolutely rock” and give her a little high five.
Telling her that she “rocks” because of a mutual interest helped her to become more comfortable around me as well as made her feel good for a moment without really knowing how i felt about her. I didn’t give up any status level at all, and in fact gained some extra points with her.
Next time you are talking with a girl and you find a common interest in something such as a favorite show, band, movie, athlete, etc. Give this a shot. But try to keep in mind that it’s much better to wait until you’ve had a conversation that has lasted a few minutes to compliment her, rather than jump the gun and say something as soon as she says “Yeah, i really like Led Zeppelin too”. If you compliment her too soon you are essentially just laying that same string out in front of her.
